Dr. Jon Hemstreet, MD

Dr. Jon Hemstreet was born in Opelika, Alabama and raised in a small town in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina. Dr. Hemstreet went on to graduate cum laude from Duke University. His undergraduate education included a year of study at the Sorbonne in Paris. While in Paris Dr.Hemstreet became interested in medicine as a career through his volunteer work with Doctors of the World.  Dr. Hemstreet returned to study medicine at Tulane University in New Orleans where he received the internal medicine award for excellence in 1999. Dr Hemstreet completed his residency in family medicine in Asheville North Carolina at Mountain Area Health Education Center, an affiliate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. 

Dr. Hemstreet then moved to Florida where he worked for Tampa General Hospital and served as a volunteer faculty member at the University of South Florida School of Medicine. For his work with medical students Dr. Hemstreet received special commendation for teaching excellence from the residency program director. 

But Dr. Hemstreet’s real joy in practicing medicine comes from spending time with patients. This patient centered focus was the reason he founded HometownMD. Dr. Hemstreet is excited to bring the concept of personalized or concierge medicine to Saint Petersburg. Dr. Hemstreet enjoys the arts which the citizens of Saint Pete have worked hard to cultivate. Dr. Hemstreet also enjoys spending time at the beach and feels that Saint Petersburg is an ideal community for his medical practice. He is now accepting new patients and looks forward to getting to know you as your personal physician.
